Intro Letter of Robyn Fosgett

Hi, my name is Robyn Fosgett. I grew up and went to Kindergarten through 12th grade in Riverside, California. After graduating high school, I went to the University of Redlands, where I graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. For the past 14 years I have lived in Carlsbad and worked throughout San Diego County. Currently I work partime at Starbucks and for a Chiropractor. I am also raising three boys, Luke (8), Jake (10) and Keith (42), also known as my husband of 11 years. I attended CSUSM six years ago in an attempt to start the Teaching Credential program. At that time, I decided my boys needed me at home and the timing was not quite right. Now that my boys are older and thriving, I've decided to go back and complete the Middle Level Program.

I have only had one computer course in my life and that was in College on a Macintosh. Everything else I have ever learned has been through work experience or trial and error, primarily with a PC. I depend on technology everyday. My Google Calendar is synched to my Blackberry, as is my Gmail. I have my work schedule, kids schedule, to do's, etc. all shared between my computer, my husband's computer and my phone. I constantly look up answers on the internet to questions that my kids ask. And believe me, they ask a lot of questions! But, to be honest I do things on a very basic level. I look forward to learning a lot more about how to use technology more effectively, both personally and professionally.

One of the reasons I chose to get my Teaching Credential from CSUSM is because of it's reputation. In my opinion, the Mission Statement supports that reputation. It highlights diversity, educational equity and social justice, all of which are vital components to the quality education that every child deserves. It also focuses on the practices that teachers can apply to achieve and support these goals. I feel that it sets the expectations for the type of teachers that will come out of the credential program.
